Young forward joins until end of season

Rochdale Hornets have signed young forward Dan Hackney on a deal running until the end of the season.

Hackney was part of the Warrington Wolves academy side that went through the 2025 season undefeated, featuring off the bench in their Grand Final victory over Leeds Rhinos.

Following the conclusion of the season, he was part of Warrington's touring squad of Australia as they faced the academies of Penrith Panthers, New South Wales and the Gold Coast Titans, whilst also training alongside Canterbury Bulldogs’ academy.

An ankle operation during the off-season means Hackney has missed much of the 2026 campaign to date. However, he has bolstered his game time by representing Leigh Leopards' reserve side in recent weeks.

The 19-year-old goes straight into contention to feature against Dewsbury Rams on Wednesday night.

"I'm buzzing with the opportunity to play for this club," he said.

"I'm really excited to play under Gary Thornton and alongside a great set of lads. There's plenty of experience within the group, and I'm hoping to learn and develop whilst I'm here.

"Most importantly, I'm ready to rip in, wear the shirt with pride, and put everything on the line to get some good results for the fans in the final three games of the season."

Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey said: "Dan has been recommended by Ryan O'Brien at Warrington, as part of our ongoing relationship, and has also been spoken of highly by my good friend, Stu Littler, as he's been getting some game time with Leigh recently.

"He is a big, aggressive lad who will be looking to impress Gary and the staff, and hoping to take his opportunity at Championship level."
