Evie Barnes re-signs for Hornets Women for 2026

Rochdale Hornets Women have announced the re-signing of outside back Evie Barnes for the 2026 season.
The 21-year-old re-signs for the club after a successful debut season during our promotion year.
“Last season was my first year playing league, and it couldn’t have been a more positive introduction to the club," she said.
"As a group, we achieved so much - winning the league and earning promotion was a huge moment, and something I’m incredibly proud to have been part of.
"On a personal level, the season allowed me to grow massively in confidence and skill. Transitioning from a second-rower into the centres was a challenge, but one I really embraced, and I feel it helped me find my feet and develop my game further.
"Most importantly, I built strong connections within the squad and truly felt at home within the group. I’m really grateful to the coaching staff, especially Ben Bird and Rob Rigby, for the belief, support and guidance they gave me throughout the season. Their confidence in me allowed me to grow and thrive.
"Looking ahead to 2026, I’m excited to keep building on last year’s success, continue developing individually, and help the group push even further together.”
Rochdale Hornets Women head coach Ben Bird said: “Evie started last year really well at second row, before switching to centre.
"With a background in MMA, I expected her to be physical and she was, Evie relishes the physicality of the game, and having Evie with Emma on an edge was formidable.
"Later in the season sadly she sustained an injury to her hand which kept her out until the grand final, but I'm looking forward to watching Evie picking up where she left off and seeing where we can get her to.”
