Oli Whitford becomes latest new signing for 2027

Rochdale Hornets have signed talented young outside back Oli Whitford on a one-year deal ahead of the 2027 season.
Whitford spent time with Huddersfield Giants' reserve team before joining Keighley Cougars ahead of the 2025 season.
He has gone on to feature 27 times for the club, most of which came during a fine 2026 campaign which saw the 22-year-old score 13 tries in 20 appearances.
Capable of playing at full-back or on the wing, Whitford starred for the Ireland national team at Under 19s level before progressing to their first team, making his Wolfhounds debut during a 30-28 victory over The Netherlands back in 2024.
On the move, Whitford said: "I’m really excited to join Rochdale and can’t wait to get stuck in and start playing with the lads.
"This is a great club and I’m very thankful for the opportunity to be here. I’m ready to put my best foot forward and have a great season."
Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey said: "We are delighted to have secured the services of Oli Whitford: a player that Gary Thornton and our staff have admired for a while.
"Gary was keen to add Oli to our group, having been impressed by his performances at Keighley and also whilst representing Ireland at international level.
"Oli had an option to remain at Keighley, and we also faced competition for his signature from rival Championship clubs, so it's another coup for us to get this deal over the line and bring yet another exciting young talent to Rochdale Hornets."
