Forward Samy Kibula becomes latest addition for 2027

Rochdale Hornets' fifth new arrival of the off-season has been confirmed, with front-rower Samy Kibula joining the club on a one-year deal.

Kibula moves to the club having spent the 2026 season with Swinton Lions, where he scored four tries in 13 appearances.

A serious knee injury meant Kibula was restricted to just three appearances during a spell with Batley Bulldogs in 2025.

But last year saw the powerful forward enjoy more regular game time as he reached 100 career appearances, for a Swinton side with whom he made his professional debut as a teenager back in 2018.

The 27-year-old also lists Betfred Super League sides Warrington Wolves, Wigan Warriors and Castleford Tigers among his former clubs - a sign of the undoubted quality and potential we know he will bring to the Crown Oil Arena. 

Ahead of the 2027 season, the Hornets have already confirmed the signing of outside backs Dylan Proud and Harry Ratcliffe, as well as half-backs Ben White and Jack Twigg.

“I’m looking forward to getting around the lads, working hard in pre-season and getting myself ready to perform. 

“I want to come in, give everything I’ve got and help the team achieve its goals. I can’t wait to get started and have a really good season together.”

“With Jordan Andrade retiring, we needed to bring in an experienced middle unit player, and Samy has a wealth of experience in the Championship and Super League that will be invaluable to our group.

“His size and presence means he is a real handful for opposition defences, but he is also a skilful player with ball in hand, and his ability to play at the line will be an added bonus to us.

“We want to build a strong and capable pack of forwards to compete at this level, and Samy's signing adds to this. I’m confident he will be a real asset for us.”
