Outside back Harry Sheridan joins club for 2026

Rochdale Hornets have signed promising outside back Harry Sheridan for the remainder of the 2026 season.

Sheridan, who can operate as both a full-back and outside back, has joined the club following a successful trial period during pre-season.

The 20-year-old came through the successful Rochdale Mayfield youth system and has gone on to feature for the England Community Lions at age group level.

Sheridan has also been in and around Wakefield Trinity's reserve team setup over recent years, featuring in numerous matchday squads.

As part of the deal, the club will continue working alongside Rochdale Mayfield to ensure Sheridan can play as many games as possible to further his development, in preparation for his opportunity in the Hornets first team.

On the move, Sheridan said: "I’m grateful to be joining this club, and I’m ready to get stuck in and test myself in the Championship this season when called upon."

Rochdale Hornets chairman Andy Mazey said: “Harry came in for pre-season on trial, having hardly played last season due to an injury. He has worked with Lyndsey and our performance staff to fully rehab the injury and got some minutes in the run-outs against Widnes and Goole.

“He has impressed Gary Thornton with his attitude, bravery and a willingness to learn. We believe he has a bright future, and it's great to have talented young Rochdale players wanting to be part of what is going on at their hometown club.

“In Harry’s case there is a back story as he’s following in brothers Lewis and Declan’s footsteps by signing for Hornets, which I’m led to believe is the first.

“We have a clear plan to develop Harry which will include working in partnership with Rochdale Mayfield, to ensure he is match fit and ready to take his opportunity when it comes.

“Harry can use the likes Max Flanagan and Dan Nixon as motivation and good examples of being patient, working hard and taking your chances, and I’m excited to see him develop as a Hornets star of the future.”
