Morgan Punchard signs new one-year deal

Rochdale Hornets utility half-back Morgan Punchard has signed a new one-year deal ahead of the 2026 season.

Punchard joined the club from Cornwall prior to the start of the 2025 campaign.

He made 17 appearances during his debut year at the Crown Oil Arena, scoring once and adding 26 points with the boot.

Prior to his time at Cornwall, the 26-year-old lined up for the likes of Hunslet, Dewsbury Rams and Featherstone Rovers.

Punchard has demonstrated his quality and versatility over recent months, and we look forward to seeing him continue to develop next season.

"It was an easy decision for me to re-sign with Rochdale," Punchard said.

"I really think I’ve found some form in the team. Gary Thornton gave me the opportunity to be the player I know I can be, and I just took it with both hands.

"I am really pleased to be staying for another year, and I can’t wait to get stuck in ahead of a big 2026 season."

Rochdale Hornets head coach Gary Thornton said: "Morgan has come in this season and made a huge impact.

"We’ve all been impressed with his attitude and professionalism. He can cover pivot and nine, and it's safe to say he's equally good in both positions.

"He has earned a new contract with his performances this year, and I hope he can kick on in 2026."
