Oli Burton: We'll learn our lessons from Oldham defeat

Rochdale Hornets hooker Oli Burton says the squad will be out to right the wrongs of their 1895 Cup defeat to Oldham this weekend.

It proved to be a difficult afternoon for the Hornets against Betfred Championship opposition at Boundary Park, a dominant second-half showing seeing Oldham score 42 unanswered points to finish 58-6 victors.

For Burton, it was a performance which underlined where the Hornets need to improve.

And with a return to league action to come this Sunday against Cornwall - the pair having already met in the cup at the start of February, with Gary Thornton's side winning 64-12 winners at Mayfield Sports Centre - he insists they must show a response and maintain their unbeaten start in the league.

"It’s important for us as a group to put in an 80-minute performance and fix some stuff up from last week," Burton said.

"We are looking forward to getting stuck into the league now, and also bouncing back after Sunday.

"It’s been one of our focuses to have good home form and make the Crown Oil Arena a difficult place to come to.

"The message this week is to concentrate on the performance as a group and kick on, and that all starts with a win against Cornwall."
