Joanna Tyson joins Hornets Women for 2025

Rochdale Hornets Women have announced the signing of outside back Joanna Tyson for the 2025 season.

The 41-year-old outside back joins following a large period away from the game, last playing for Leigh Miners.

She becomes the ninth signing to join Ben Bird's squad ahead of the 2025 season.

“After years of proudly supporting Rochdale Hornets what better way to show my allegiance than being part of the team. I’m excited to become part of such a driven and talented group. With coaches Ben and Rob, who bring a wealth of experience and passion to the game, I know this season will be an incredible opportunity for growth.

As any player would I want to contribute to the team’s success, enhance my skills and technique, and build strong bonds with my teammates. I can’t wait to get started and see what we can achieve together!”

Rochdale Hornets Women head coach Ben Bird said: “Jo is another that's come back in to rugby league after a long break from the game having played at Leigh Miners. Jo is the loveliest woman you're ever likely to meet, then you give her a rugby ball. As a new face at the first few sessions she raised a few eyebrows with her speed and agility but it's the physicality where you can see Jo's eyes light up. I can't wait to see how Jo shapes up in competition.”
