Lexi Hamer joins Hornets Women for 2025

Rochdale Hornets Women have announced the signing of outside back Lexi Hamer for the 2025 season.

The 34-year-old outside back joins Hornets Women.

She becomes the sixth signing to join Ben Bird's squad ahead of the 2025 season.

“I joined Hornets to be part of a local team, I've been a season ticket holder at the football club and attended Hornets games whenever I can.

My dad, Martin, used to report on rugby league as a journalist (including Hornets) so I've grown up with the game around the house.

I'd like to thank everyone at the club for being so welcoming, the coaches Ben and Rob for patience to coach me as a beginner, the support of the club to get the team up and running and Harriet and Matt for all the organising and management - I've very much appreciated everything that's gone on behind the scenes as well as in training.

In 2025, I'm looking forward to getting out on the field and hopefully contributing to the team to get some wins, but also develop as a played and grow my understanding of the game.”

Rochdale Hornets Women head coach Ben Bird said: “Lexi is a new player only having played RL as a junior before. She arrived with a good level of fitness, has good hand eye coordination, is strong and balanced carrying the ball. I think the biggest test for someone coming back in to league after a break is acclimatising to the contact in defence and Lexi hasn't taken a backward step. It'll be exciting to watch her confidence grow this year.”
