Evie Barnes joins Hornets Women for 2025

Rochdale Hornets Women have announced the signing of second-rower Evie Barnes for the 2025 season.

The 18-year-old joins on the back of a successful union season at Bury RFC, having represented Lancashire on two occasions thus far.

She becomes the first signing to join Ben Bird's squad ahead of the 2025 season.

“I’m really excited to be joining Rochdale Hornets for 2025. The club has a great history and a strong sense of community, and I’m looking forward to being part of that,” she said.

“For me, 2025 is about working hard, giving my best every time I step on the field, and helping the team achieve success.

"I’m eager to contribute and make a positive impact. I’d like to thank the coaches Ben and Rob for this opportunity, and I’m ready to get started and make the most of this season.”

Rochdale Hornets Women head coach Ben Bird said: “Evie's a hugely exciting addition to the squad - new to rugby league but coming from a really well run Bury Rugby Union ladies side, where she's recently earned a call-up to represent Lancashire.

"With a background in competitive jiu jitsu, she gives us a real aggressive, physical presence in the back row.”
