Hornets fall to an 18-12 defeat in Penryn

MATCH REPORT VS CORNWALL

A quick start from Rochdale saw Purcell work the ball all the way through the middle working the ball over the right-hand side for Tommy Brierley to go over for his 3^rd try in 2 games. just 5 minutes into the game. 

Hewitt missed the extras leaving the score at 4-0. 

Then just 4 minutes and a few sets later the Hornets struck again courtesy of Dan Harrison getting the ball down over in the corner.  

Hewitt again missed the extras from out wide. 8-0

It was fairly easy going for the next 10 minutes or so, a few Cornwall attacks with a try saving tackle from Nixon. 

Unfortunately, Nixon’s effort was in vain, as on the 20-minute mark, Cornwall broke the line and worked the ball towards the middle setting up an easy conversion. Cameron Brown scoring both.

Both sides traded sets and kicks safely, looking for a breakthrough, but nobody managed it and Rochdale led 8-6 going into the break.

An early error for Rochdale started off the second half, Cornwall forced a GLDO, but no danger came from it, and we defended well. 

Cornwall struck first in the second half, George Mitchell getting it over, and Brown again converting putting the Cornwall team 12-8.

Rochdale’s next chance came down on the left right in front of the lone, a poor pass misplaced led to a break and a chance for a full-lengther, but the player in question was wrapped up quickly.

Cornwall’s captain Whitton was sin-binned around the 65-minute mark, Cornwall without a full-back for 10. He refused to give the ball back after it went dead. 

With 7 minutes to go, Rochdale tried everything, eventually moving it so far out wide to Dan Brewin who scored over in the corner, the linesman wasn’t sure, but the referee gave it. Hewitt missed the extras leaving the score at 12-12 with 5 minutes

to spare.

With the last play of the game, Cornwall dealt the deadly blow, a great break through the middle and getting the ball out left with the last play of the game leaving the score at 16-12 before the converted kick leaving the full-time result at 18-12.
