LEWIS ELSE RE-SIGNS FOR 2024

Lewis Else has signed a contract extension, until the end of the 2024 season
Rochdale Hornets have moved quickly to secure the future of exciting half-back Lewis Else for the 2024 season.
Having announced earlier this week that coach Gary Thornton has penned a new deal for next year, key playmaker Else has now followed in committing to the club.
The former Widnes Vikings and Swinton Lions playmaker has been a key figure in a Hornets side that can confirm a play-off place in Betfred League One in coming weeks.
Else has been a regular try scorer to go alongside his creativity, and he is delighted to be staying a Hornet.
Else explained: “I’ve really enjoyed my first season at Rochdale - everyone has made me feel welcome and I feel like I’ve fitted in well.
“For the rest of the season we are aiming for the highest finish possible and looking to finish positively to cement a play-off place.
“On a personal note I have a friendly battle going on with Cian Tyrer - he reckons he can catch me as top try scorer. Hopefully we can both get over the line a bit more to help the team - and hopefully me more than him!
“The goal for next year is to compete at the top end of the table and really push those leading teams. I don’t see any reason why we can’t do that and I can’t wait to get going.
“Lastly I would just like to say thanks to the staff for making my transition to Rochdale a smooth one, and the fans for supporting us no matter what. Hopefully we can do you proud for the rest of the season.”
Coach Thornton is delighted to have confirmed Else in his 2024 squad, with further announcements expected in coming days and weeks.
“I’m really pleased to have retained Lewis for another season,” Thornton said.
“He’s a rare commodity being a young developing half-back with quality, good skill sets and a sharpness that are hard to find with the potential he has.
“He has been one of the shining lights for us this season and shown glimpses of how good he can be, and will only improve with experience.
“There is still loads to come from him and I’m delighted he’ll be here next season. We can build a team around his kind of quality and a big thanks to chairman Andy Mazey for making this happen.
