Ben Forster re-signs for 2022

Rochdale Hornets is delighted to announce the re-signing of young forward Ben Forster for the 2022 League 1 season.

The 20-year-old was promoted to the Rochdale Hornets first-team with winger Dan Nixon from academy partners Hopwood Hall College.

Forster, who takes inspiration from his father who coached him from a young age, wore the number 24 shirt in 2021 in an impressive debut season.

“The decision to re-sign for Rochdale Hornets was an easy one to make knowing that Matt was staying at the club and which I am over the moon about,” he said.

“Last season exceeded my expectations in terms of game time as one of the younger players, but next year I am looking forward to cementing my place in the team.

“As part of the team I am looking forward to pushing for promotion to get Rochdale back where they belong.”

On the re-signing, head coach Matt Calland said: “Ben is another player that has come through at Hopwood Hall Rugby Academy, alongside young winger Dan Nixon.

“He did really well last season in his breakthrough year and has great potential.

“I am looking forward to working with him again this season.”

Chairman Andy Mazey added: “I am absolutely delighted to retain Ben and it’s yet another shining example of our our first-class player pathway that exists and credit once again to Matt and our Academy partnership at Hopwood Hall.

"This lad has a huge future in the game if he continues to learn his trade under Matt and work hard and I’m absolutely delighted his journey will continue with Rochdale Hornets in 2022 and hopefully beyond.”
