Flying Dan re-signs for 2022

Rochdale Hornets is delighted to announce the re-signing of Dan Nixon for the 2022 League 1 season.

Having made his official debut in 2021 against Hunslet, the 19-year-old earned club heritage number 1615, and scored his first try away at Barrow Raiders. 

“I’m delighted to re-sign with Rochdale Hornets for the 2022 season,” said Nixon.

“The fan loyalty is second to none and the club have been amazing.

“My aim is to cement my spot in the starting line up, train hard and play harder.

“We have a solid foundation to build on and I’m proud to be part of it! 

“Let’s get back to the Championship.”

On the re-signing, head coach Matt Calland said: “I was really impressed with how Dan handled the step up having been playing college rugby at Hopwood Hall and amateur rugby at Oldham St Annes.

“Dan is fearless and is great under the high ball and can play equally as good at wing, centre or full-back.

“We’re looking for a big pre-season from Dan.”

On the retention of one of the highlight players of 2021, Chairman Andy Mazey added: “One of the building blocks we have spoken about since arriving at Rochdale Hornets is the excellent player pathway that exists here and a major part of this is our Development Academy partnership with Hopwood Hall College delivered by our Head Coach Matt Calland. 

“Having come through our system, Dan experienced the intensity of League 1 for the first time this season and was like a duck to water. 

“He epitomises everything we want at this club, a great attitude and work ethic, willingness to learn and a strong desire to progress in the sport. 

“I’ve seen first hand how much time and effort Matt puts into his young players and Dan is an absolute credit to himself, his family, Matt’s coaching and our development structure. 

“I’m delighted he will continue his journey here and I’m sure he will continue where he left off in 2022.”
